Ahhh, that started out terribly but certainly redeemed itself by the end.
By Monk I assume you mean Thelonius? Has there ever been a cooler name in history? I think not.
Of course this is way too long for FF, but you sir, methinks, can get away with it. I love the image at the end: the rusting weapons, nature reclaiming the streets, and music, always music in the air.
It's charming and comforting at the same time. Another well done piece.
I posted a silly tribute (to another of your stories) photo on my blog today. Check it out when you have time.

This had a beautiful balance to it. Such is life, isn't it? (Hugs)Indigo
Thanks Matt and Indigo.
And, yes indeed, Thelonious Monk! Which is not only the coolest name in music, but pretty much anywhere else, too.
Gorgeous.
Terrible and beautiful.
Stunning piece, Bryan.
Thanks, Mira.
Absolutely beautiful.
Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for the nice words, Robin, and thanks for stopping by!
This left me breathless and sad and hopeful. What a combination! Beautiful writing on an all-too-true subject.
Thanks for the kind words, Anna! Just what I was aiming for. :)
