Yes, that is a cannon. DO NOT MESS WITH ME.

What's it looking out on? I get the feeling this is a fort, rather than a ship.

It's in the Belem Tower, which is on the waterfront in Lisbon, Portugal. It's a little hard to see in a photo this size, but in the background you can see the magnificent (and modern) Vasco Da Gama Bridge.

The tower's pretty cool. I'll try to post some more pictures of it this week.

Even without seeing that cannon of yours, I would not have been gutless enough to mess with you, Bryan. I might wake up one day to find yet another character based on me has bitten the bullet. It's gotten wearisome on my troubled mind after the first hundred times.

That is an awesome picture.

I wish I had a cannon right now.

I've always wanted one of those for the front of my car. Is that wrong?

I'd love to visit Portugal, and this does look like an old embattlement or fort window. Question - is that a suspension bridge in the photo? (you say it's modern) It's very faint, like a image behind mist.

I visited Fort Jefferson in the Dry Tortugas (off Key West, Fla.) a few years ago and we took a picture like that from one of the cannon openings there.

Looking forward to seeing more photos.

No, Alex, that's a boatload of right.

@ Marsha

I'd send you one if I could. I'm not sure Homeland Security would be too thrilled with us, though. So nosey about those priority mail packages...

@ Jeffrey

You're safe! I actually never put real people (or even heavily disguised real people) in my stories. Seems safer that way. You never know when the cannon's going to be pointed in your direction...

@ D.G.

It's called a "cable-stayed" bridge, which I think is similar? The main part has cables, but the rest doesn't. It's really, really long. Like many kilometres long. Neat to drive over, though.

And Portugal is great. Very friendly people.

Noted. No messing.

I knew it. Not a ship.

Looks like they knew right where to point it. :)

The tower in the distance is mostly obscured by the fog, but I saw it. Love the emotions this pic evokes.
